Performance Elsa Mulder & Jan van Esch This is an intervention exhibition Berlin July 2020This durational performance reflects on the notion of the gift in the act of donating used clothes to ‘those in need’. During the lockdown many people started to clean their wardrobes, which resulted in an overflow of donations to charity organisations to further distribute, often resulting in profit-making processes in countries and areas that ‘cannot refuse’ these low-cost remnants. Experimenting with the unspoken rule of reciprocity in gift-giving, the performers hand out discarded pieces of clothing of good quality to unsuspecting audience members and passersby.
